What is a Kytchyn Wytch?

A kitchen witch, sometimes called a cottage witch is a homemade puppet or doll resembling a stereotypical witch or crone displayed in kitchens as a good luck charm and to ward off bad spirits. Originating from Northern European customs, A kitchen witch can be placed in your kitchen to watch over your stove so your pots never boil over, and inspires safety in the home. It's often good luck to gift a kitchen witch to a friend or family member.

A preface to a very cute custom that is so thoughtful and right up my alley. I love cooking and unfortunately I am also one of those people that like to photograph their food. On this page you'll find exactly that and the ocassional full recipes of dishes I like to make.

The cutest cake I've ever made!
I've never had much luck at baking to be honest with you I SUCK at it but this year I wanted to do something out of the ordinary and make a cake for my boyfriend's birthday and I was inspired by the chinese bakery birthday cakes I used to get as a kid! they were the perfect amount of not too sweet and light texture filled with fruit. Although I didn't have the confidence to make the actual cake from scratch (it's angel food cake from the box which turned out TOO sweet for my liking...next year I'll make it myself) I did find a recipe for the perfect icing! I'm not a huge fan of regular sugary frosting so I opted for a whipped cream icing that's used in all those delicious pasteries in Chinatown! (it's just heavy cream, vanilla extract, unflavored gelatin, confectioners sugar, and a lil water)

Wiggly! Jiggly! Delicious!
I. Cannot. Stop. Making. These. I've been trying to perfect the smoothest surface for these steamed eggs and while I haven't achieved it, I'm getting pretty damn close! You might have already seen recipes of this floating around the internet but in case you haven't this is a dish originating from China consisting of eggs that are beaten, chicken broth is added to the mixture and steamed to create the most jiggy, wiggly fun, texture that can be compared to soft tofu (but more tasty in my opinion!)
